Old Lyon and traboules
At the foot of Fourvière hill, Old Lyon lines up its Renaissance mansions, Saint-Jean Cathedral and the famous traboules, secret passages running through the buildings. Meeting there in the evening, when the lanterns light up, offers an almost Italian scene. You pass through the Cour des Loges, listen to the astronomical clock chime and share a drink on Place Saint-Jean.
Fourvière and its viewpoint
Fourvière, nicknamed the hill that prays, watches over Lyon with its 19th-century basilica and its gilded mosaics. From the esplanade, the panorama takes in the city rooftops, the two rivers and, in clear weather, Mont Blanc. A date at the funicular to go up together, a coffee above the rooftops, and the city opens itself to the pair in splendid light, especially at the end of the day.
Presqu’île and Place Bellecour
Vast and elegant, Place Bellecour is Lyon’s classic meeting point. Around it, the Presqu’île unfolds its pedestrian streets, from Rue de la République to Place des Terreaux and its Bartholdi fountain, facing the town hall. The Saône and Rhône quays, straddling the two rivers, can be ridden by Vélo’v. On Lyad, members from the Rhône share their favourite corners; it is up to you to find someone to discover them with.
